Instagram Content is Now Showing Up on Google - It's Time to care About Your Keywords

Image

On June 10th 2025, Instagram introduced a change that most people won’t notice straight away - but it has huge implications if you use social media to market your business.

From now on, public posts from professional Instagram accounts will appear in Google search results. This means your Reels, photo carousels, and even your captions can turn up when someone searches for topics you post about.

Why is this a big shift?

Until now, Instagram has always been a closed platform. If you shared something, it really only lived inside the app. If you didn’t catch people’s attention in the first day or two, your content quickly disappeared into the pile.

People have spent hours creating helpful guides or sharing stories, only to watch them vanish within 24 hours. The content was good, but it was hard to find after a while.

Now, things are different. A post you shared last month might show up in someone’s Google search when they look for a topic in your field.

This gives your content a second chance to be seen. But it also means you need to think carefully about how you write your posts.

Here are a few things to consider:

  • Use clear keywords in your captions. Not just hashtags or catchy phrases, but words that real people might type into Google when they’re trying to solve a problem.

  • Fill in the “alt text” for your images. This helps describe your content, and now it will actually help search engines understand it too.

  • Make sure your Instagram bio clearly explains what you do, in simple language anyone can understand.

For me, as a Technical SEO guy, this is a reminder of why it’s so important to stay on top of these changes.

Search engines are always evolving. They decide how and where your content shows up online. When you fall behind on updates like this, you lose opportunities to get your business seen.

This update blurs the line between social media and search. It’s no longer enough to think of Instagram as its own little corner of the internet. Your posts can now appear alongside your website, your blog, and other places you share information.

If you want your business to stay visible, it’s worth reviewing how you write and share content.

If you’d like help making sense of what's going on here, just reach out.

Keeping on top of things isn’t a luxury... It’s essential if you want your online presence to keep working for you.
