Chat GPT-5: Maybe Not Quite the Game-Changer We Were Told It Would Be

ChatGPT-5 launched last week (August 7th), and we've been told recently that this new update will be a game changer, I've been testing it since launch and here are my thoughts.

For those people running a small business and using ChatGPT for content, marketing, or admin support, you’ll find GPT-5 continues to deliver as it has done for the last year or two.

It’s competent, reliable, and still a time-saver. But it’s not the leap forward many were expecting. For most day-to-day tasks such as writing blog posts, generating ideas, and drafting emails, GPT-4 was already doing the job well.

From a developer’s perspective, which is something I am very interested in, there are some technical gains. It’s faster at outlining code, testing logic, and spotting bugs, but that said, I still prefer to write code manually and use ChatGPT as a support tool, not as my lead developer.

For small businesses, the upgrade is just incremental. It’s the equivalent of a phone update that improves performance but doesn’t change how you work. Useful, yes. Transformative? No.

This raises a bigger question: are we entering the era of marginal AI improvements? If so, business owners should focus less on chasing the latest version and more on integrating AI right now into their daily workflows.

If ChatGPT 4 or Copilot on Windows or Microsoft Edge is already part of your toolkit, keep using it. GPT-5 is a solid refinement, but it won’t revolutionise how you run your business.
