Want better search results?… Get blogging!

If your website is just a homepage, a services page and a contact form, you’re missing out on free traffic every day.

A lot of business owners treat their website like a digital business card. They put it online and hope people will magically find it. Google doesn’t work like that. If your site never changes, Google has no reason to come back or show it to anyone, especially if your competitors’ websites are being updated regularly.

A blog is your friend. It’s what keeps your site alive, helps you get found and shows people you know what you’re talking about.

1. Google wants fresh, useful information

When you publish helpful articles, you give Google more to work with.

  • More chances to appear in search: In really simple terms, a five page website gives you five chances to show up. Fifty blog posts give you fifty chances.
  • You look like an expert: If you only have a short paragraph about a service, you look like you barely cover it. If you’ve written ten articles explaining common problems and how to fix them, Google sees you as someone who actually knows their trade.

2. You answer real questions people are actually typing

People don’t sit at their computer searching for vague terms like “accountant” or “plumber”. They search for the exact problem they’re dealing with.

If you’re an accountant, people are searching things like:

  • How do I claim mileage as a sole trader
  • When is the payment on account deadline

Write a clear blog post answering those questions and you catch people at the moment they need help. You stop chasing random keywords and start helping real people.

3. Blog posts are something that people actually share

No one shares your services page. It looks like you’re trying to sell to them.

But a useful article can get shared on LinkedIn, Facebook, WhatsApp and email. It also gives other websites something to link to, which boosts your whole site in Google’s eyes.

4. It proves you know your stuff

A blog is a simple way to show your experience without saying “we’re experts”. When someone reads a post where you explain something clearly and simply, they trust you before they’ve even spoken to you.

A static website won’t bring you steady traffic. A good blog turns your site into something that attracts visitors, builds trust and brings in enquiries. But this doesn’t usually happen overnight, it takes a little time to get established… So what are you waiting for, get blogging now!
