Over my years I have sent millions of emails through campaigns for Alton Towers, Matalan and Machine Mart, as well as many many other smaller companies. I was always paranoid that an email would go out with massive issues like this so over that time my attention to detail became pin-sharp.
It’s likely that someone set it up all lovely last night (or early this morning), and then finally accidentally selected the incorrect campaign and set the schedule to go without doing one final test…
I see emails like this quite often nowadays, what happened to attention to detail? I feel that if my team had sent this out to a company with hundreds of thousands of contacts we would have got our first warning, it would have been like a zero-hour catastrophe spending all day smoothing it over with the client.
Today, it seems that nobody is likely going to be fired for this, it’s just another opportunity to send one later this morning with an “oops, we messed up… aren’t we fallible like every other company” subject, because really it isn’t the end of the world, and recipients are much more tolerant nowadays.
What are your thoughts about this? would an email like this in your inbox annoy you? Have you worked in a content agency before and had this happen to you… And if so, what was the fallout?
I’ll be in Nero’s this morning for my Friday morning Americano… I’ll be sure to complain to the staff, I’m sure they’ll be interested hehe 😜
